It was a style that came into vogue in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. It’s unique and enchanting effect instantly gained great popularity at the courts of the Italian princes. In the magnificent splendour of Italy’s golden age, it became an opportunity for the Italian aristocracy to assume the roles of their heroes and heroines . . . it was Masquerade.
